The Yuge Tower on Qionghua Island is one of the most mysterious attractions in Beijing's Beihai Park, housing the most complete collection of stone carvings with calligraphy in China, open for visits only one day a week!

阅古楼，坐落于北海公园琼华岛西麓，依山而建，呈半圆形。两层回廊，左右环抱。与太液池对岸的震旦香林遥遥相望，是一座风格独特的园林建筑。「阅古楼」三个字为乾隆手书，建筑建于清乾隆十二年，内部收集保存有书法石刻495方，还有大量的拓片可供欣赏。

Located on the western foothills of Qionghua Island in Beihai Park, the Yuge Tower is semi-circular in shape, built against the mountainside. It consists of two layers of corridors, embracing the left and right sides. Facing the Zhendan Xianglin on the opposite bank of the Taiye Pool, it is a uniquely styled garden architecture. The three characters "Yuge Tower" were hand-written by Emperor Qianlong and the building was constructed in the twelfth year of the Qing Dynasty. It houses a collection of 495 square calligraphy stone carvings and a large number of rubbings for visitors to appreciate.

进入楼内，自成天地，沿着蜿蜒的楼梯而上，被引入琳琅满目的石刻丛中。参观时间虽短，但也能被这满室的石刻所震撼。阅古楼，这里是集我国历代著名书法之大成的杰出建筑。

Upon entering the tower, one feels as if in a separate world, ascending the winding staircase into a forest of stone carvings. Though the visit may be short, one cannot help but be awed by the plethora of stone carvings. The Yuge Tower stands as an outstanding architectural achievement representing the culmination of famous calligraphy from various dynasties in China's cultural and artistic history.
